Crosstalk with Select Telecom (Winter 2015)

Employee CPR Training at Select TelecomAt Select Telecom we believe in being prepared, whether it’s planning for business continuity with a DR (disaster response) plan or educating yourself about emergency preparedness of a more personal nature.  To this end, this past November Select Telecom invited employees to join in for a CPR/First Aid training course hosted by Stacey Cleveland of Emergency Medicine for Moms.

The 3-hour training course covered CPR skills and AED use, choking, and first aid for medical emergencies.  In addition to instructor led discussion, employees were also encouraged to get hands-on experience using the “manikin” dummies to practice what their new skills.

The team at Select was impressed with how much they learned in just a quick session.  Though some employees had been trained in CPR in the past, they were surprised at how much had changed in only a few years.  Administrative & HR Assistant Tina DeSalvo reflects, “I used to be a lifeguard about 10 years ago and CPR has changed pretty significantly since then!  I was surprised by the updates and thankful to learn them – the guidelines are much easier now than they used to be.  This class was so enlightening and really made me feel confident that if I am ever faced with an emergency situation, I can help save someone’s life.  That’s a very powerful feeling and I appreciate it.  Stacey was a fantastic teacher with lots of real life examples that will stick with me.”

Installation Manager Anthony Durante echoes those sentiments.  “The last class I took like this was when my daughter, Sarah (turning 12), was about to be born, and so much has changed since then.  Stacey was very patient and answered all of our (many!) questions clearly.”

Likewise, CSR/Account Manager Danielle Crawford was also grateful for the experience.  “I’ve been wanting to get this done since my son was born.  Definitely very educational.  But –” she adds with a laugh, “I just hope I never have to use it!”
