The man in this photo may look familiar to readers of the Summer 2011 edition of Crosstalk. No, our Service Manager Stephen didn’t grow a mustache… this is his twin brother, Paul!
Paul Burns has been an Installation Technician at Select Telecom for 15 years. Paul works closely with Installation Managers Bob and Anthony to install new phone systems at customer sites and make sure that each individual phone is laid out and tagged correctly. Paul looks forward to long jobs where he gets to spend a lot of time with the rest of the installation team. As he recalls, “When we did the Léman Manhattan Preparatory School, we were there all day together for three weeks and we just had a great time. It’s really a good bunch of guys.”
Like many of Select Telecom’s original employees, Paul got his start in the telecom industry working at TSI (Telecommunications Systems Incorporated) in Rye in the 1980’s, then moved to Williams Communications in Armonk before joining Select Telecom in the fall of 1997. Prior to specializing in phone installation, Paul assembled cars at GM, securing the hood to the chassis just before the vehicle was complete. Though transitioning to the very different world of telecom was an adjustment, nowadays Paul appreciates the customer interaction aspect of his role and the challenges that come from every installation job being unique.
Outside of work, Paul loves to hit the golf course and watch as much Rangers hockey as possible. He’s even had the good fortune to be at Madison Square Garden for Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals. As he reflects, “Stephen and I got playoff tickets in 1994 and experienced the Rangers winning the Stanley Cup. That’s a game I’ll never forget.”
