Eddie Rodriguez, Service Technician

This issue, our featured employee is Eddie Rodriguez, Service Technician at Select Telecom for over 6 years. Eddie’s day-to-day work focuses on repairs and installation assistance, mainly for customers in New York City (though he’s been known to travel to New Jersey, Westchester and Rockland counties, and even down to Philadelphia). Eddie has been a phone technician since 1979 and while honing his expertise over the years, he has been witness to the evolution of communication technology. “Technology has come quite a ways. Phones were heavy and bulky with big cables for only 10- or 6-line phones and cabling was more involved. Today, everything is shared with data so a single pair [of wires] can give you 20 lines.”

When asked about his favorite aspect of working at Select Telecom, Eddie’s sense of humor shines through: “Getting paid!” Jokes aside, Eddie enjoys getting to meet different people and the challenge of always having something different to do every day. “There’s always a little variety,” he reflects. One little known skill of Eddie’s is his excellent penmanship. According to Select Telecom’s bookkeeping department, Eddie’s job tickets are by far the most legible out of all of the technicians. Eddie attributes this hidden talent to his high school days, when he studied architectural drafting and blueprinting. Eddie has also been recognized by the company for his creativity – he was the winner of a contest to name this newsletter!

In other news around the office, recently Select Telecom invested in upgraded mobile devices for many of our employees to make our staff and support more accessible and available to both our clients and to each other. Management staff Mike, Jerry, and Paul (President & CEO, VP & Project Manager, and COO, respectively) now carry HTC Evo devices running the Android operating system and are making good use of the Evo’s mobile email, internet, and text messaging capabilities. In addition, our project managers, customer service team, and many technicians all received Blackberry smartphones.

Whether it’s service from experienced technicians like Eddie or upgrading our staff to the latest technology, we are continuing to invest additional time and resources into our commitment to provide our clients with unparalleled service and support 24 hours day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
